2020..."Bye Felicia"

Hannah Marie

I

just have one thing to say to 2020… ‘Bye Felicia’!!!

Holy mother of joseph…2020 was a year of soooo much ‘NO’, so much get me the ‘f’ out of here, and ‘what the Armageddon’ is going on. In retrospect, it sucked in just about every facet expect for just a few really great takeaways.

We learned that life is precious. And similar to Russian Roulette, life can be taken away far too easily. So this year reminded us that we are in fact blessed to be alive, to breath, literally, and to spend time and focus on the ones who truly matter. It reminded us that home can truly be a place of solace and how fortunate to have loved ones to share it with.

I personally learned just how fortunate I am to have my littles and my hubs to share in the space that is home. That home is family to me, and that family is my solace.

I took the time and energy to pour into something I love to do, i.e. this blog. I created the site, the brand, and the content and I did so, whilst not feeling all too well, and with surmounting stress from that which was 2020. For that I am so profoundly proud of myself.

I was reminded of friendships and relationships that not only kept right on ticking but flourished even though we couldn’t be face to face. I was easily able to identify ‘MY PEEPS’ and those so fiercely in my corner and I in theirs.

I grew closer to family and was reminded of how precious it is to be able to spend time with them, when this year made that either a thing of the past or quite difficult to achieve.

The importance of ‘things’ diminished and the importance of ‘connections’ became evident.

Of course, with all that was gained in 2020, there was that much more that I’m sure we all could have done without. Namely, white supremacists thinking their way of thinking was in some way…okay; the RONA; so, so many deaths worldwide, divorces, people somehow indicating that the ‘Black Lives Matter Movement’ was not okay, unnecessary, or diminished by indicating that all lives matter…because um duh…clearly you missed that point; a blatantly divided country where instead of political debate between Republicans and Democrats we received hatred for the other and little real tangible effort to what really matters like hope, love, and a ‘United’ States of America; and overall what seemed like despair with people out of work, uncertainty of what the future holds, and an economy on some serious shaky ground.

So although, 2020 brought out some much needed lessons and opportunities for me, that I will certainly take with me into 2021…I still say “Bye Felicia” (no pun intended for any Felicia’s out there). Bye, to the surmounting stress. Bye, to the fake friends. Bye, to people who drag you down rather than bring you up. Bye, to RONA and thank you Pfizer and Moderna for the much-needed Vaccine. Bye, to no traveling and meeting up with your peeps. Bye, to not being able to clink some glasses and throw a cheer’s in the air in person. Bye, to the ‘sorry we can’t have a real 6th birthday party for you with all your friends because of the RONA’. Bye, to canceled weddings and other fantastic celebrations. Bye, to at max-capacity hospitals and beds overflowing into the waiting rooms. Bye, to loved ones dyeing alone in a hospital bed because family can’t be there with them. Bye, to nurses and doctors exhausted and living a daily nightmare. Bye, to people who think the RONA is a hoax and treating those on the front lines like dirt. And Bye, to anyone acting with hatred in their hearts verses the greatest gift of all, LOVE.

So yeah, I’ll take the good that 2020 gave me and hold on tight to it, but otherwise…. 2020 can take a trip down memory lane and simply stay there. Again…Bye Felicia and welcome 2021…what I call the year of hope.
